To prepare for elections happening in over 40 countries next year, as well as the European Parliament elections, Tactical Tech has collected together our knowledge and resources to support education and capacity building organisations working on political transparency and citizen empowerment. We have worked with partners to research and investigate the use of technology in elections since 2017. With our experience, we have trained over 150 journalists and editors, and engaged with partners in over 15 countries to understand what voters need to know to feel prepared in their daily lives ahead of elections.
Based on this experience, we have developed workshop plans and resources for trainers across the world with a focus on two areas:
- voter literacy to empower citizens to make their own decisions in advance of election day;
- investigation practices necessary to create transparency in political processes.
We will host two free training of trainers workshops to share tour approach and our learning materials.
The training of trainers for voter education will share a workshop agenda and various stand-alone activities to engage and prepare voters, as well as approaches we’ve found useful for tackling the political and technical content for participants of all backgrounds and experience levels.
The training of trainers for investigations will share workshop plans for trainers and teachers and specific tools useful for journalists to know of in advance of the upcoming elections including our own free resources on the topic surrounding useful framing, research techniques and tools for investigating the topic of political data and the influence industry.
Who are these train the trainer workshops for?
We welcome participants who work on digital and media literacy AND/OR journalist training, particularly from Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), South-West Asia and North Africa (SWANA), Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Eastern Europe.
The deadline for applications is the 17th January.
